Sarah Murillo, LCSW

Psychotherapist
TX
Choosing to start therapy is a big decision, and every therapist offers a unique perspective and approach. My clinical specialties are restrictive eating disorders and neurodivergence. I provide an eclectic and non-religious based approach to therapy. I believe in respecting our body's innate wisdom. Some modalities I use include somatics, DBT, and ACT. My approach I primarily use DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and somatic therapy. There are many situations you will encounter that you will not have control of, and distress tolerance can help you manage intense emotions these situations might bring up. Additionally, distress tolerance skills build resilience, and with practice, these skills can replace unhealthy coping skills. I use somatic therapy to bring awareness to the body and foster a mind-body connection. Often, the stresses and traumas of daily life interrupt the mind-body connection, and your body can be your greatest resource in managing your emotions. My focus I work with adults of all gender identities and ages who struggling with an eating disorders or who are wanting to engage in self-discovery. I have personal experience navigating eating disorder recovery and though the experience can be isolating, know that you are not alone. Together, we can build resilience and challenge and replace thinking patterns that contribute to your eating disorder. My communication style My hope is to create a non-judgemental and safe environment where you are comfortable sharing your inner thoughts. I will communicate with you gently and reflect openly and honestly. I will encourage you to fully express your authentic self. My journey to mental healthcare My path to becoming a mental health provider started when I signed up for a psychology elective class in high school. I pursued this passion in college, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology, and later a master's degree in social work.
