“When I first met Savitha, I wondered if someone much younger than me would really understand my experiences. But she quickly changed my perspective. She is patient, respectful, and much more mature than I expected. I appreciate how willing she is to understand things outside her own experience and how she gently challenges my thinking without ever making me feel judged. After a few sessions, I felt comfortable opening up and sharing things I had kept to myself. I’m really happy I gave myself the chance to work with her.”

Getting to know Savitha Palanisamy

I’m Savitha Palanisamy (she/her), an Associate Psychotherapist who works with young adults, adults, and older adults experiencing anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship issues, low self esteem, loneliness, grief and loss, cultural adjustment, identity concerns, and major life transitions. I also support clients navigating changing family dynamics, retirement, chronic illness, serious health concerns, and questions about meaning and purpose during different stages of life. My clinical experience includes supporting diverse racial and cultural communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, older adults, and people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other chronic or serious health conditions. I understand that emotional well being can be shaped by culture, relationships, identity, physical health, stigma, family expectations, and major life changes. My approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, person centered therapy, and strength based approaches. Together, we can better understand the patterns contributing to anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, or feeling stuck while building practical coping skills and healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges. I believe therapy should fit the person, not the other way around. Whether you are facing a major transition, struggling in your relationships, coping with loss or illness, or simply wondering why you feel the way you do, we can begin there.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is collaborative, supportive, and centered around getting to know you as a whole person. I take time to understand your experiences, values, relationships, strengths, and the things that are important to you. In our sessions, we can slow down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and explore what may be getting in the way of feeling more balanced or fulfilled. We’ll work together to build practical skills, recognize your strengths, and find approaches that feel realistic and meaningful for your everyday life. I aim to create a space where you can be open and honest without feeling judged or pressured to have everything figured out. You can bring uncertainty, difficult emotions, questions, or things that may be difficult to put into words. We’ll begin where you are and take the next steps together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first sessions focus on understanding what brings you to therapy, what you are experiencing now, important parts of your history, your relationships and support system, and what you hope will change. Together, we identify goals that feel realistic, meaningful, and relevant to your life. As therapy continues, we may explore thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, family dynamics, identity, and past or present experiences connected to concerns such as anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, low self esteem, grief, loneliness, or major life transitions. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate CBT, ACT, mindfulness, coping strategies, reflection, and strengths based exercises to help you manage difficult emotions, recognize patterns, and respond to challenges differently. We will regularly check in on your progress and adjust our work as your needs evolve. The goal is not simply to manage symptoms, but to help you better understand yourself, strengthen your coping skills, and create changes that feel sustainable in your relationships and everyday life.

When I first met Savitha, I wondered if someone much younger than me would really understand my experiences. I’m really happy I gave myself the chance to work with her.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first visit, but I ended up feeling very comfortable with Savitha. The conversation felt natural, and I never felt like I was being analyzed or told what I should do. She has a way of asking questions that makes you stop and think without feeling pressured. I came in with a lot on my mind and wasn’t sure how to make sense of everything. Talking with her helped me see things from a different perspective and understand my feelings better. She is thoughtful, professional, and genuinely easy to talk to. I would definitely choose to see her again.
What I value most about working with her is how open she is to hearing about things that may not always be considered “normal” by society. I’ve shared personal experiences related to my culture and the way I grew up, and she never gave me a weird reaction or made me feel like something was wrong with me. She takes the time to understand where I’m coming from instead of comparing my experiences to her own ideas. I’ve also been able to bring up sensitive topics and share perspectives that I might not always discuss with others. I really value having a therapist who respects different ways of thinking and never makes me feel like I need to fit into what society considers normal.
What stood out to me most was how comfortable and secure I felt throughout the session. She gave me the space to talk at my own pace and share things I normally find difficult to express. I appreciated that the conversation felt private, respectful, and completely free of judgment. By the end of the session, I felt a sense of relief that I hadn’t realized I needed. It felt good to finally let some of those thoughts out instead of continuing to carry them on my own. I also came away feeling confident that if I’m struggling again, I have someone I can talk to openly and honestly. It was a genuinely reassuring experience, and I’m very thankful for the space she created for me.
From my first conversation, I noticed something different about the way she approaches therapy. She has a thoughtful way of helping you slow down, notice patterns, and look at situations from angles you may not have considered before. Her questions encouraged me to think more deeply rather than simply search for quick answers. I walked away with new insights about myself and a clearer idea of what I want to work toward. The experience felt meaningful and productive, and I can already see how the things I learned can translate into my everyday life.
I honestly never had a therapist like Savitha before. She made me feel really comfortable from the beginning, and I felt like I could just be myself and talk openly without being judged. She genuinely listened and made me feel understood instead of just giving me advice. I really appreciated how calm, kind, and easy to talk to she was. I left the session feeling much better and lighter. I’m truly grateful for the space she created for me, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a therapist who genuinely cares.
