Getting to know Scarlete Johnson

I am a Master's level clinician licensed in Virginia as a professional counselor and certified substance abuse counselor. I hold a Master's in Professional Counseling and an EdD in Community Care and Counseling Traumatology from Liberty University. I have been in the mental health field for the past 15 years, with a strong background in case management, family services, psych rehab groups, substance abuse groups, and both intensive outpatient and outpatient counseling. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults aged 14 and up. I am mindful of cultural, religious, and ethnic differences and take an individualized approach tailored to meet the specific needs of each person in treatment. My therapeutic modalities of choice include, but are not limited to, person-centered therapy, individual psychology, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, cognitive processing, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and ecosystemic structural family therapy. I do what I do because I believe humans are neither fundamentally good nor bad but are shaped by their experiences, which teach them about the world, others, and most importantly, themselves. I walk alongside individuals to foster a safe environment that encourages exploration of self and how core beliefs, behaviors, and emotions influence their choices and relationships. I empower individuals to reach their optimal versions of self. I have supported others on journeys of healing from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, domestic abuse, childhood trauma, sex trauma, drug and alcohol addiction, workplace-related trauma, low self-worth, self-hate, grief, and through manufactured emotions such as guilt and shame.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clients can expect to walk away feeling hopeful, supported, and heard.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I love meeting with Scarlete. She pushes me to see things from a different lense. It’s like talking to a good friend.
I appreciate Ms Scarlete is very caring and concerned about me as a Patient and she has my best interest at hand.
After only a few sessions, I feel confident I have finally found the right therapist for me.
Very understanding I wish I could select more than 2.
I have gone to therapy before when I was younger and she made me feel like I have always known her. Feel so comfortable telling her everything. I literally enter the sessions and start pouring my heart out every time. She really listens and makes your think about what your saying and it has helped me so much!
Very helpful and capable. Nice welcoming person.
Mrs. Johnson's openness and genuineness makes me feel connected to her beyond the means of a therapist, it feels like I've found a new friend. She inspires me and encourages me to look at things in different perspectives I would have never thought before, and since having multiple sessions with her, I've let go of so much held on guilt within myself that I never would have discovered without her. I feel like a new person already and look forward to speaking to her every session. She is amazing. I am so glad she is my therapist.
