Getting to know Seth Gruenwald

Hi - I'm Seth, and many of my clients come to me because they struggle with unhealthy relationship dynamics, whether in long-term or new romantic partnerships, family relationships, or general interpersonal functioning. I specialize in relationships, addiction, depression, anxiety, and trauma, with over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds and a broad spectrum of personal challenges. I approach each person with unconditional positive regard and encourage authenticity, both in relationships with others and in the relationship with oneself. I welcome opportunities to cultivate safe spaces for sharing, reflection, and healing. I bring a gentle, respectful, and accepting demeanor to the therapeutic relationship, supporting emotional awareness, self-appreciation, humor, and celebration as cornerstones of a healthy and resilient foundation for personal growth. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois and earned my Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. When I'm not working with clients, you can find me playing the cello, guitar, or piano; hiking with my family; or perfecting my deviled egg recipe.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Our first session is my opportunity to get to know you: who you are as an individual, what's important to you, and what you'd like to get out of therapy, in addition to biographical, relationship, and work/school info. It's also an opportunity for you to get to know my style as a therapist and decide whether it's a good fit for your needs and goals or not. Over the course of therapy, each session can be a combination of a regular check-in, an opportunity to process and work through personal struggles, psycho-education on mental health topics concerning your situation, and counseling and coaching as needed and desired. Much of this depends on what you bring to each session and what you'd like to get out of each session. My job is to support you in working toward your goals.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
