Shannon Clymer, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
I am glad you are here. I entered the Mental Health field in 2006, following 37 years of field research (through lived experience) in a wide variety of settings. Everything from addictions to personal trauma to family violence to marital discord to intergenerational and historical trauma to work/life balance stress. My approach I come from a solution-focused, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness therapeutic lens. I love working with everyone, from individuals with a small amount of stress to first responders, to those with dissociative and personality disorders. My focus I have served the persistently mentally ill population since 2006. However, I also enjoy working with first responders and preventing or ameliorating PTSD. I provide psycho-education, mindfulness, meditation, and teach coping and healing strategies. I can use talk therapy or be more directive with curriculum, worksheets, and educational materials. My communication style My communication style is straightforward, direct, and compassionate. The tone of the sessions is clinically based and tailored to the client's needs and ability. We can move forward at your pace, but I will help you move forward. My journey to mental healthcare I had life experiences that left me with PTSD and an addiction problem. I decided to go to college to learn what makes an otherwise normal human self-destruct. I received degrees in Alcohol and Drug studies, Psychology, and Social Work. During my personal journey, I not only achieved my goal but also found a career that suits me. My goals for you I listen to the client, assist them in setting goals for therapy, and then use my clinical expertise to help them achieve those goals. The mode of treatment is tailored to the client's needs. If the issue is related to thinking or behavior, we use CBT; if it involves distress tolerance, I teach those skills to manage distress, and so on
