Getting to know Shannon Nickey

Hello! I'm Shannon, and I'm here to help you navigate life's challenges. Everyone struggles in life, and sometimes those struggles become overwhelming. It's okay to ask for help when that happens. It's okay to want someone to hear you. I can be the person that hears you. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland with a Master's degree in counseling. With close to ten years in the mental health field and five years as a licensed counselor, I've had the privilege of working in a variety of environments, including a psychiatric hospital, a crisis hotline, Baltimore City Schools, Baltimore County Detention Center, and private practice. These diverse experiences have shaped my open-hearted approach to therapy, allowing me to connect with individuals from all walks of life. My therapeutic philosophy is centered around you. You will control these sessions, and I will be there with you every step of the way. You express what you need, what you've been through, and I will support you. My goal is to create a safe and accepting space where you can feel heard and understood. I specialize in a wide range of areas, including addiction, anger management, antisocial behavior, anxiety, autism spectrum support, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, children's mental and behavioral health, adolescent and teen mental and behavioral health, depression, dissociative disorders, gender identity, LGBTQIA+ support, multicultural and diversity issues, phobias, PTSD, psychosis and schizophrenia, stress, suicidal ideation and self-harming, and trauma. Whatever you have experienced in life will be openly accepted and heard. But this is not about me; it's about you. You don't need to feel alone. This is your time to express yourself and work through your struggles. Together, we can find a path forward. I look forward to hearing your story and supporting you on your journey.
