Getting to know Shannon Poe

Hi! I am an LCSW licensed in Illinois. I have an MSW from Tulane University and a Doctor of Social Work from the University of Southern California. My work takes a holistic healing approach, focusing on the intersection of mind and body in the healing process. My experience has spanned 10 years in working with individuals healing from trauma and grief and loss.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My role is to meet you right where you are, whether you are early on in the process or months or years into the journey. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to grieve. You will always be met with understanding, empathy, and a space where you can feel safe expressing whatever you are experiencing. We’ll work together to identify what you’re feeling in the here and now, then come up with strategies that you can begin putting into action in your life right away. Through a variety of age-appropriate interventions, including art or play therapy, I’ll help you or your child process and work through your grief in the way that’s right for you. I work with children (ages 10+), adolescents, adults, and seniors in individual, couples, and group therapy. I specialize in working with law enforcement personnel and Veterans. My husband and father are Veterans, and many of my friends are either Veterans or active duty. My research has focused on Veterans, active duty, and law enforcement. The project specifically target the resilience of those who experience PTSD and their family members. I simultaneously volunteered for years with the USMC as a civilian, which was an incredible and fun experience. My doctoral research focused on the intersectionality of community violence and PTSD.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
