Sharonda Ferguson, LCMHC

Sharonda Ferguson, LCMHC

Psychotherapist
NC
As your counselor, I support you in making meaning, creating comfort, and uncovering resources to help you be your best self. Taking an evidence-based, client-centered approach, I provide a safe, supportive space where we collaborate and work at your own pace to reach your goals. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University and am an experienced Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). I have applied behavior analysis principles in treatment sessions to increase clients' understanding of behavior. Being both an LCMHC and BCBA allows me to merge these fields to establish strong therapeutic relationships. Along with goal-oriented treatment and systematic outcomes, I work closely with clients to support their growth. I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while also relying on Applied Behavior Analysis principles. I help individuals address dysfunctional emotions, maladaptive behaviors, and thinking processes through goal-oriented methods. CBT and ABA are effective for various conditions, and CBT also forms the basis for the social cognitive learning strategies I use. In counseling, I actively work with you, providing information, guidance, and support. My approach often involves helping you change attitudes and behaviors that cause emotional distress and difficulties with social relatedness. We may discuss how you've handled challenges in recent situations and relationships. Counseling may include identifying, developing, and implementing more effective problem-solving strategies and healthier decision-making. At times, I may ask you to complete activities outside sessions, such as reading or worksheets. I recognize that changing patterns of thoughts and behaviors is difficult, and I am here to support you through that process.
