Getting to know Shemar Magee

While I am open to working with a diverse group of people, I think I would be a good fit for queer and BIPOC populations, as I am part of those communities. My first experiences as a therapist were in queer agencies, and I enjoy giving back to marginalized communities.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I feel pretty comfortable helping anyone with anything; however, I enjoy working through systemic issues. I love working with people regarding race, gender, and sexuality. I use a feminist lens, which opens conversations about systemic issues and oppression in therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When people first sit down with me, I want them to feel like they can be their authentic selves with me. I want people to feel safe and comfortable. I want people to feel like they can open up to me and put aside differences to learn more about who they are.
