My approach My work as a therapist is guided by the humanist theory that people can heal and grow if they have assistance that is genuine, empathetic, and accepting. I believe that when we accept ourselves exactly as we are, then we can find the strength to change behaviors that are not serving us. We can do this through learning and using coping skills, challenging unhelpful thoughts, processing in a safe space, and learning to live mindfully in the present, feeling safe in and connected to our own body. My focus I work with clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence, and relationship issues. Sometimes unhealthy coping patterns include problematic drug and alcohol use. I can help you find healthier ways to cope with the struggles that life sometimes brings us. My communication style I provide a calm, nonjudgmental space for my clients to share their thoughts and feelings. I use active, reflective listening and socratic questioning often in sessions. My journey to mental healthcare I became interested in being a therapist as I was working through some of my own challenges. This prompted me to go back to school for my master's in social work, where I focused on co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. My goals for you Therapy begins with establishing a partnership to identify goals and create a roadmap towards achieving those goals. We will check in on progress and identify new goals as we journey down that road.
