Getting to know Stephanie Barrett

I am a bilingual Texas-based therapist who is passionate about helping children, teens, adults, and families navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, relationship challenges, and life transitions in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. My approach combines evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and strengths-based interventions to help clients build emotional awareness, confidence, and healthy coping skills. I believe therapy should feel collaborative, empowering, and tailored to each individual’s needs, culture, and goals. My goal is to help clients feel heard, understood, and equipped with practical tools that support long-term emotional wellness and personal growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that working with me is a collaborative and supportive process where they can feel safe expressing themselves without fear of judgment. I focus on creating a comfortable environment where clients can openly discuss difficult emotions, past experiences, relationship concerns, stressors, and personal goals. My therapy style is compassionate, direct when needed, and focused on helping clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while learning practical coping skills they can use in daily life. I work at each client’s pace and tailor treatment approaches to fit their age, personality, strengths, and specific needs.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My typical process begins with an initial assessment where I gather information about the client’s emotional, behavioral, family, social, and mental health history to better understand their concerns and treatment goals. Sessions are conversational and interactive, combining talk therapy with skill-building exercises, psychoeducation, coping strategies, and goal-setting. I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed interventions, mindfulness techniques, and solution-focused approaches to help clients recognize patterns, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen communication skills. Throughout treatment, I monitor progress collaboratively with the client and adjust interventions as needed to ensure therapy remains supportive, practical, and effective.
