Getting to know Stephanie Grein
My counseling approach reflects my academic training, personal experience as an active duty military spouse and mother—these experiences have shaped my outlook and foundational beliefs. I believe we are unique and complex, with a variety of needs, but the baseline is rooted in human interaction comprised of caring, respect, acceptance, support, and understanding. We all possess the capacity for change from within; however, sometimes we need an external catalyst that a counselor may provide by creating a safe and therapeutic environment grounded in genuineness and empathy. This approach complements my personal style and worldview, as it is without bias and acknowledges the uniqueness of our individual experiences. Therefore, I utilize an integrated approach that is versatile, flexible, and universally applicable to an array of clinical issues. These approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, and Couples and Family Therapy.
My goal is to promote wellness and facilitate “wholeness” to maximize individual functionality and increase self-awareness of the connection between thoughts, emotions, physical experiences, and spirituality. I strive to empower clients by accentuating their strengths and moving beyond their limitations to realize greater life satisfaction and psychological wellness.
I earned my Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois and a National Certified Counselor. I have worked with individuals and groups, including children, adolescents, and adults, in residential treatment facilities, community mental health centers, and outpatient counseling agencies.

Stephanie was very attentive for our first appointment. I could tell right away she was going to be a great fit for my mental health journey. It didn’t even feel like a video chat, it felt like I was right there in the office with her and that takes extra effort on her part, which I am so grateful for! You can tell she is invested in each and every person she treats. :)

I have to say, I’ve been in therapy for over twenty plus years and something about my therapist’s bio, being so straight forward yet compassionate, kept bringing me back to her page—-I’ve looked at bios from at least thirty five others in or around my area. But there was a connection with Stephanie even before I met the woman. It was odd but true…I thought, “This is the right fit and she will HELP all my facets.
I’m in a very dark place right now and need someone who’s going to be compassionate yet challenging, honest but humble, forthcoming and to the point…I think have found her.
Stephanie makes you feel very welcomed. Your first appointment with her is genuine, and she will look you in the eyes and say what she feels she can or can’t accomplish. That’s a great therapist!
Overall, I left feeling calmer and less edgy. She spoke in a very subtle tone. Trust me, she, Stephanie, is wonderful so far.
I’m actually looking forward to our next session.
