Getting to know Stephine Smith

Hi there, I'm Stephine! My name is Stephine Smith. I am a wife of 18 years, with one son and one dog baby. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, holding a Master’s in Social Work from Valdosta State University and a Bachelor’s degree from Albany State University. I’ve worked with diverse professionals, individuals, and families. In 1997, I began working in a psychiatric hospital unit in Albany, GA, gaining valuable experience. I’ve also worked with individuals facing various mental health and substance use disorders, which has been professionally and personally rewarding. My approach is client-centered, collaborating with individuals to develop tools to cope with daily challenges. My approach My eclectic approach uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy skills. I also incorporate techniques from IFS, EMDR, DBT, and MI to help you find solutions to feel better. By working together and making small, consistent changes in your thoughts and feelings, you can develop positive outcomes. My focus Individuals seek me out for support with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, stress, and conflict management. Contact me if you feel overwhelmed and unsure how to cope. Higher levels of stress and unhappiness can be temporary with understanding and change. I provide a safe space and time for you to share, explore, and gain insight based on your goals. My communication style I build therapeutic, mutually respectful relationships with empathy, compassion, humor, and some disclosure to normalize feelings. My journey to therapy I grew up in a rural community in Southeast Georgia. I felt awkward and sometimes alone due to social anxiety. In college, I doubted myself, and in my first professional role, I began attending therapy. BEST DECISION I MADE FOR MYSELF! If I could tell my younger self, we all feel awkward, and that’s okay—just love yourself. Therapy was not what I expected.
