Hi there, I'm Steven!
I am a Licensed EMDR Therapist, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. With over 18 years of experience, I have honed my therapeutic approaches to produce rapid results by developing behavioral exercises that change perceptions and increase life satisfaction. My aim is to promote hope, instill motivation, and create a safe place to explore underlying issues causing discontent. I have experience working in both public and private sectors treating a wide variety of mental disorders. I earned my Master's in Social Work from California State University, Fullerton, graduating at the top of my class and receiving prestigious honors for research conducted on cognitive behavioral therapy approaches.
My approach
I utilize evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, and motivational interviewing.
My focus
I have extensive experience treating depression, trauma, anxiety, addiction, anger management, bipolar disorder, ADHD, marital discord, grief, co-dependency, employment/career dissatisfaction, and coping with partners and children struggling with addiction and mental disorders.
My communication style
Session conversations are non-judgmental and non-confrontational, utilizing a variety of reflective listening techniques, introspective questioning, and empathetic summarization to build a therapeutic alliance of trust and mutual respect.
My journey to therapy
My passion for helping people began when a family member committed suicide, confounding my assumptions of meaning and reason. This experience sent me on a quest to understand why certain people are not able to find peace and happiness no matter how much circumstances change.
