Getting to know Steven Goings
Hi there, I'm Steven!
My name is Steven Goings, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Seaside, California, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without guilt or shame. It takes courage to seek out a happier life and to take the first steps towards a necessary change. I am here to support and empower clients to achieve their goals, recover from past mistakes and traumas, and also to experience fulfillment.
My approach
I have a person-centered, strength-based approach to therapy. I am comfortable using Brief Solution-Focused models for situational issues; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for issues related to emotional dysregulation, self-harm, addictions, and impulse control; and transpersonal therapy for issues related to self-actualization, personal growth, and spirituality. I want my clients to feel equally comfortable sharing their light and dark sides without fear of judgment.
My focus
I provide individual therapy sessions for all adults throughout the life cycle. I have expertise in supporting clients in healing from the impact of oppression and I have a particular affinity for working with people of color and the broader LGBTQ+ community. I am skilled in working with personal relationship issues and cross-cultural conflicts as well as issues of belonging and navigating various belief systems.
My communication style
My communication style combines elements of compassion, directness, good humor, and empowering validation. I also provide support in developing responsible communication skills through increased awareness of functional agreements, personal integrity, and the practice of clearing upsets.
