Getting to know Steven Kapela
I am Steve Kapela, and I've been in long-term recovery since May 12, 2008. My journey includes overcoming challenges with gambling, alcohol, and drugs, etc. My Recovery transformation has allowed me to heal my family, build a fulfilling career, seek redemption, and repair the damage from 35 years of addiction. At the age of 50, I began working in the recovery field as a Peer and counseling assistant while pursuing my education. In 2016, I earned my Master of Social Work (LISW-S), and by 2017, I received my independent social worker license and Chemical Dependency certification. I was also among the first in Ohio to be certified as a gambling counselor (LICDC-CS-GAMB). As a Community Mental Health program supervisor, I helped develop Ohio’s largest and most extensive Gambling Treatment program. Having experienced addiction and recovery myself, I believe that individuals of all ages and backgrounds have the potential for change when provided with the right support. With 35 years of lived experience, along with my professional training, I possess a deep understanding and empathy for my clients. Recovery is possible, it may be the hardest thing you ever do, but it comes with rewards you cannot imagine today.

Every session with Steven feels like a breakthrough. His techniques are effective, and his support is unwavering. Beating my addictoin has been an ongoing struggle for the last 10 years and for the first time in my life i feel like im finally getting somewhere.
