“Susan is honest and will tell you what you need to hear. She helps with couples and family conflict and i always end feeling a sense of relief and a small weight lifted off my shoulders. She remembers our past talks and can pick up where we left off or she can change it up to a current issue if needed. She is very professional but also kind and caring and knows how to express how i feel when i can't even put it into words. I wish everyone had a therapist like Susan.”

Getting to know Susan Burns

Hello there, I'm Susan! I have been in the mental health industry for over 24 years. I have worked with individuals facing mild to moderate, as well as severe mental health challenges. I approach psychotherapy with sensitivity and patience and always keep my clients' best interests in mind. I have extensive experience working with clients dealing with relationship issues, job stress, general stress, parenting stress, couple therapy, anxiety, depression, cultural struggles, guilt or shame, aging, anger management, coping skills, grief, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. My top modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Coaching, Culturally Sensitive approaches, Strength-Based, Person-Centered, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. I hold a Master's in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach, which has further enriched my ability to support diverse clients effectively. I look forward to patiently guiding you through your journey of self-discovery and improving your mental health.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients may expect my full attention and can count on me to be on time and to be consistently available for appointments as scheduled. During the first session, I will introduce myself and review housekeeping items related to Grow's expectations as well as my expectations (initial assessments, treatment plan development, types of sessions, length of sessions, no shows, etc.). Then, I will explore clients' reasons for seeking therapy and their expectations. All other sessions, I will outline what will be discussed based on clients' treatment plan goal(s), explore and educate areas of concerns, teach coping skills, and review clients' progresses and barriers in upcoming sessions.

In-network insurances

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
