Getting to know Susan Cruz

Susan Cruz is a licensed social worker currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their current employer is Present Therapy. I hail from New Jersey, where I earned my Bachelor's in Social Work from Stockton University. I went on to receive my Master's in Social Work from Temple University in 1999. I have been working with children, adolescents, and adults throughout my entire career. I have experience in child and adolescent trauma, anxiety, self-image, and stress reduction. Couples therapy is also an area of expertise. I enjoy empowering individuals toward growth, whether it be in their careers or relationships. I spent many years working in the school setting, including elementary, middle, high school, and college. I am always continuing my education to meet the needs of my clients.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When I am not working, you can find me hanging outside hiking, biking and doing anything outdoorsy. I am an avid pet lover and have two pups of my own! I have a large family; family to me is always top priority. I understand the value of family and customs, but further understand and advocate for self-care in order to care-take for others. I have a passion for guiding individuals and empowering them with evidence-based skills to reach their goals. Whether a client is 7 or 70, each individual has an idea, a goal, which can be reached. As an professional with over 20 years of experience, I am confident in my abilities to customize skills and help clients reach their goals in a way that honors their beliefs and experiences.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Once you book with me on this app, you will complete your intake with the owner of the practice. Once you complete your intake we will schedule a recurring appointment to address your goals until they are met. I typically work virtually Monday and Tuesday evenings. I think it is important to have a connection between client and therapist. I like to conduct a brief “meet and greet” session to see if new clients feel we are a good fit and can work together. I practice traditional psychotherapy and may add pieces from other practices and theories that I feel will benefit my clients.
