Susan Garner, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
With over 18 years of experience and a Master's in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, I have the knowledge, experience, and training to help clients through challenging times. Most of my clients are individuals struggling to cope with unresolved grief, trauma, life transitions-including divorce-and significant losses, whether a job, friendship, or death of a loved one. Many others are desperate to improve current relationships and understand why old patterns tend to repeat. Couples seeking help are often locked into emotionally painful dynamics that alienate and polarize them, wanting to be connected but not knowing how to do so. These are all complex dynamics that require exploration of family-of-origin histories and uncovering limiting beliefs and assumptions formed long ago that adversely impact self-esteem and current relationships. As human beings, we all experience challenges during our lives. The key to successfully navigating these challenges lies in understanding, developing appropriate coping skills, examining how we might change our thinking and behaviors, and being kind to ourselves. Therapy is a collaboration-a relationship between myself and my client(s). Treatment choices are not made in a vacuum or based on a single theoretical model. A strategy that works well for some individuals may not work for others. Thus, my treatment strategies are unique to each individual and combine best practices tailored to each client's specific needs.
