Getting to know Susan Madson

My name is Susan Madson, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master's in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento. I specialize in depression, anxiety, anger issues, identifying coping skills, building relationship skills, recognizing client strengths, increasing self-care tools, boosting self-esteem, and teaching meditation skills, grounding, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques. I help reduce trauma symptoms by guiding clients to learn self-regulation skills. I encourage clients to participate in homework assignments to build skills that stabilize their emotional and behavioral functioning. Additionally, my specialties include addiction issues, grief work, and couples therapy. The therapy technique I most commonly use first is a client-centered approach. I start where the client feels most comfortable and focus on creating a safe environment. My initial goal is to build a strong therapeutic relationship with my client. From there, I work using strength-based, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), solution-focused, interpersonal, narrative, and mindfulness therapy techniques. I use an eclectic approach because each client is unique and has different needs. My goal is to help clients recognize that therapy often involves identifying the small steps they are making toward their treatment goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

"The most important part of therapy is for me as a therapist to provide a warm, safe and comfortable environment for my client's. I am open to sharing my experience, strength and hope with my client's to help client's benefit from working with me as a therapist. My first session with you we will work on getting to know each other. I will ask questions regarding past history of mental health symptoms and treatment. Help the client to identify support people, start to identify strengths, identify treatment goals, and work on helping client to feel safe in working with me as a therapist."

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
