Getting to know Susan McGilloway

Welcome to my world! I offer a safe space where you can be authentically yourself and receive no judgment. For anyone who is experiencing distress over current struggles or experiencing the long-term effects of past trauma, my virtual door is open. For some, this may be the first time to experience such acceptance. I assist you in processing your emotions from a loss, past trauma, relationship issues, lack of social or professional self-confidence, or feelings of isolation and loneliness. You deserve to feel good about yourself and your life. You deserve to be accepted, respected, and loved. So…I invite you to permit me to share this journey of healing with you. I am just a phone call or email away. My approach I believe therapy is a partnership in which we each contribute to healing and growth. Therapy requires commitment from both the therapist and the client/s to be faithful even when the process is challenging. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you identify and reshape unhelpful thought patterns. This approach is hands-on and gives you tools to feel more in control of your emotions and behaviors. I use eye movement desensitization & reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness therapies, relaxation techniques for anxiety and depression, and coping strategies for symptom management. I enjoy working with couples to develop healthy communication and interaction. With families, I use Bowen Family Therapy practices that focus on nonjudgmental acceptance of each family member in their uniqueness. My focus I believe therapy is a partnership in which we each have our work to do for you to achieve your goal/s. We each bring something to the process - consistency, follow-through, and commitment. My communication style Open communication to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment. I practice active listening and will give you opportunities to reflect on your experiences with you as an empathetic partner.
