Hi there, I'm Susan! My primary focus is the LGBTQ+ community, specializing in transgender and gender non-conforming folks. I also have expertise in alcoholism/addictions, relationship issues/counseling, depression, anxiety, and PTSD/trauma (mental, emotional, physical, sexual abuse). My approach I consider myself an eclectic therapist who utilizes a wide variety of theories and techniques, including mindfulness, somatic, cognitive behavioral, existential, and Gestalt, to serve the diverse needs of my clients. My communication style I would describe my communication style as warm, compassionate, and collaborative. Clients feel seen and heard. My journey to mental healthcare As a person who identifies as Queer/Transmasculine, using pronouns he/they, I benefited tremendously from my own therapeutic work with therapists and meditation teachers who identified as LGBTQ+ and/or were supportive and affirming. I felt seen, heard, and understood by providers who shared some of my lived experience and was able to heal my own trauma and internalized homophobia/transphobia. Inspired to change careers, I returned to college and graduated with a Master’s in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of La Verne in 2005. My primary focus is to serve the LGBTQ+ community and help others find their path to healing. My goals for you Goals are set in a style that is comfortable for my clients. My first session with you Introductions, review of documentation, review of issues and concerns to be addressed, and beginning the healing process.
