Susye Greenwood, LMHC

Susye Greenwood, LMHC

Psychotherapist
NY
I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy to adults and couples in New York and Connecticut. From the outside, everything may look fine while something within you—or between you—no longer feels right. For more than a decade, I have helped clients navigate anxiety, relationship challenges, burnout, disconnection, and periods of uncertainty. Our work goes beyond symptom relief to understand the deeper patterns shaping your relationships, emotions, and decisions. In individual therapy, we explore how earlier and current relationships influence your expectations, choices, and sense of self. In couples therapy, we identify the cycles driving conflict or distance and work toward more honest, responsive, and meaningful ways of relating. My approach is collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in real life. I draw from psychodynamic, relational, somatic, mindfulness-based, and creative approaches, tailoring our work to your history, needs, and goals. I believe that warmth, curiosity, creativity, and a sense of humor are cornerstones of meaningful therapy. I also specialize in wealth psychology and the emotional and relational complexities that can accompany success, including questions of identity, trust, responsibility, values, and purpose.

Getting to know Susye Greenwood

I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy to adults and couples in New York and Connecticut. From the outside, everything may look fine while something within you—or between you—no longer feels right. What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to psychotherapy is from an integrative perspective and uses tools from various models including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, positive psychology, narrative and other expressive arts therapies. I also offer Hiking Therapy, weekly sessions which take place on trails in the NYC area and Concierge Therapy where I come to your home or office.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with a brief phone consultation to discuss what brings you to therapy, answer questions, and determine whether working together feels like the right fit. If we decide to move forward, the first few sessions focus on understanding your current concerns, personal and relational history, and what you hope will change. Sessions are conversational, collaborative, and focused. I listen carefully, ask questions, offer observations, and help you make connections between what is happening now and the deeper patterns influencing your emotions, relationships, and decisions. I do not follow a rigid, one-size-fits-all formula; the process is tailored to your needs and may incorporate psychodynamic, relational, somatic, mindfulness-based, or creative approaches. In couples therapy, we slow down recurring cycles of conflict or distance so that each partner can feel heard and begin relating in more honest and responsive ways. Most clients meet weekly, allowing the work to develop with consistency, depth, and momentum.
