Getting to know Sylvia Gomez

Hi there, I’m Sylvia. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Sonoma County, working with clients via telehealth throughout the state. I hold a Master’s in Social Work and a Bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University. I work with adults facing a variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship challenges, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a Humanistic Integrative approach to help my clients develop a sense of hope, determination, and resilience. My approach to therapy is varied and client-driven, based on each individual’s unique circumstances and needs. I work WITH you to navigate these challenges, building coping skills and improving your overall wellbeing. I’ve found that my approach works well with adults facing depression, anxiety, life stress and transitions, family conflicts, and relationship issues. My communication style is calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental. I create a safe space for my clients that is sensitive and understanding. My journey toward becoming a therapist stems from my desire to give back and help others. My favorite proverb is “It takes a village,” which, in my view, doesn’t only apply to children. I’ve learned that life isn’t easy, and if it hadn’t been for counselors, therapists, social workers, and other trusted mentors, I would not be where I am today. Every individual is unique, with unique circumstances and concerns. My approach to goal setting with clients is about getting to know you, understanding your areas of concern, and building trust. In our first session, I will ask questions and listen closely to get to know you and make that initial connection. Together, we’ll explore potential goals you want to address, discuss next steps, and track your progress.
