Getting to know Tamara Carter

Since I was a child, I had a strong desire to become a helping professional.  My path was made clear when I discovered and fell in love with the field of psychology.  I have worked in the helping professions for the past 23 years, gaining knowledge and experience providing therapeutic services not only in private practice, but in criminal justice, social services, and correctional settings as well. In addition to generalized professional experience, I have extensive, specialized training in trauma, grief, co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use), and anxiety.  I am equipped to serve individuals, groups, couples, and families. I truly view my role as a therapist as a life calling and I take my responsibility toward my work and each client very seriously. I look forward to collaborating with you to help you become the person you were meant to be.  Let's get to work!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Counseling is meant to be a highly individualized process, shaped and defined by the client's needs and expectations.  It is important that, from the very beginning, I have a clear understanding of what your values and concerns are, and how I can best serve you as you work toward achieving your goals. My role as a therapist is to provide an environment that is complementary and supplementary to each client's work.  That means that, at all times, I will accept you as you are and be respectful of your rights, your time, and your position as architect and navigator of your journey.  I will continually work to build and establish trust with you, being transparent and genuine during our interactions, so that you feel safe and comfortable enough to do the very important work ahead of you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Truly one of if not the most well rounded, easy to talk to, open hearted therapist in the area. I am so thankful to have met her.
She makes me feel very comfortable like I’m talking to my best friend. She has lots of good advice and challenges me to think about choices
I had a previous therapist abt a year or so. She did not diagnose me nor gv me any task to do. Tamara diagnosed me on the 1st visit and give me weekly homework. She listens as well as give me informative info to help me deal with my struggles. I am so glad I found her and for once in my life I feel like with therapy I can get ahead of my issues so they can atleast be manageable
Tammy is attentive, kind, and casual in a way that makes therapy feel incredibly approachable and authentic. She presents questions and suggestions that are thought provoking and prioritizes focus on sense of self and what the individual may need to thrive. I always leave the sessions with food for thought and boosted confidence in my ability to embrace myself and my care. I could not recommend her more, a champion of empowerment and self-worth.
Tamara is AMAZING! She listens carefully and attentively. I feel like I am talking to someone who truly works to help me grow :)
