What should a new client know about working with you?

If you are considering therapy, it can help to know what the experience will be like. My goal is to create a safe, respectful, and collaborative space where you can speak openly and feel understood without judgment. My style is warm, direct, and engaged. Clients often tell me they appreciate that I am compassionate while also being honest and practical. I believe therapy should not only provide insight but also help you make meaningful changes in your life and relationships. I will ask thoughtful questions, help you slow down and reflect, and offer tools and perspectives that support growth. My work is strongly influenced by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and other evidence-based approaches. I specialize in couples counseling, marriage counseling, relationship repair, anxiety, and life transitions. In couples therapy, I help partners understand the emotional patterns that create conflict and distance, and guide them toward more secure, supportive ways of connecting. In individual therapy, we often explore patterns that affect relationships, stress, self-esteem, and emotional well-being. During your first session, we will spend time getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. I will ask about your current concerns, important relationships, background, and what you hope will change. This first meeting is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide whether the fit feels right. Therapy is a process, and progress often comes from honest conversations, curiosity, and a willingness to explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My role is to support you, challenge you when helpful, and guide you toward greater clarity, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of self.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical therapy session is a collaborative conversation focused on helping you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and relationship patterns. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable speaking openly while also guiding the discussion in a way that leads to meaningful insight and change. Sessions usually begin with a brief check-in about how you have been since the last meeting and any important events or challenges that came up during the week. From there, we focus on the concerns that feel most important to you. This might include exploring relationship conflicts, emotional triggers, stress, anxiety, or patterns that keep repeating in your life. I often help clients slow down difficult moments and look more closely at what is happening underneath the surface. Many conflicts are driven by deeper emotions such as fear, hurt, or feeling misunderstood. By identifying these underlying experiences, clients are better able to communicate their needs and respond to others in healthier ways. In couples counseling, we often work on identifying negative communication cycles that partners can get stuck in, such as criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, or escalation. Together we work to de-escalate these patterns and help partners respond to each other with more clarity, empathy, and emotional connection. In individual therapy, sessions may involve gaining insight into emotional reactions, learning tools for managing anxiety or stress, strengthening boundaries, or exploring experiences that have shaped your relationships and self-perception. Some sessions focus on processing emotions, while others include practical tools, communication strategies, or new ways of approaching challenges outside of therapy. Each session is guided by your goals, and over time the work helps create greater awareness, healthier communication, and stronger, more secure relationships.
