Hi there, I'm Tara! Welcome! I am Dr. Tara Ross-Barksdale, a licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with nearly 11 years of licensed experience working with individuals, couples, and families, and a total of 20 years serving individuals with mental health challenges. I earned my Master's in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and completed my PhD at Walden University. I strongly believe in building trust and rapport with my clients to create a space of comfort and safety. Some areas of focus include anxiety, depression, stress, and anger management. As I get to know each client, I actively help them better understand their symptoms and learn ways to improve their lives and relationships with others. My approach I provide individual therapy sessions utilizing various approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while integrating other techniques like Cognitive Processing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. My focus I have experience with diverse populations, including Community Mental Health, Residential Treatment, Corrections, and Private Practice. My specialties are anxiety, depression, stress, and anger management. My communication style I offer honest, transparent, empathetic, and collaborative communication. I provide a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive space for you to share openly. My journey to mental healthcare Over 20 years ago, I began my mental health journey in a correctional setting as a Rehabilitation Counselor. Five years later, I was promoted to Probation Officer, and during those pivotal moments, I realized I wanted to be of service to others. I wanted to help them succeed and recognized that many struggled with mental health challenges and were unsure how to improve their lives and relationships. My goals for you Once we identify what you'd like to get out of the counseling process, we can develop specific strategies to help meet those goals.
