Getting to know Tara Tolbert

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience in my field and 13 years as an independent practitioner. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. I provide holistic counseling to individuals, blending traditional and new age approaches to support your path to transformation and healing. I take pride in offering services that focus on clients' strengths. I create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can express themselves openly. My approach prioritizes self-awareness and personal growth over diagnoses for billing purposes, helping you formulate a plan to tap into your true potential and live life to the fullest. I enjoy working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. While I address a wide range of mental health concerns, my specialties include mood disorders, anxiety, relational issues, life transitions, and high-conflict parenting. I am also LGBT friendly. If you value confidentiality, flexibility, empathy, non-judgment, and dependability in your mental health care, you've found the right therapist. For your convenience, I currently offer evening and weekend sessions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you've chosen me as your therapist, please accept a my gratitude in advance. Our first session will be an assessment. This allows us to get better acquainted, clarify expectations, and develop goals based on your history, strengths, and desired outcomes. Moving forward, I hope to keep you engaged in each session and to offer check-ins as needed. Communication is key.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Mrs. Tolbert has helped me not only in my relationship but also in learning things about myself. She is genuine, kind, and cares about everyone, and makes you think a lot more than you would have liked about the situations you talk with her about. I have grown emotionally working with her and would recommend her to anyone who wants to be empowered in their life in the same way. I'm grateful.
She’s very mindful, insightful, is mindful of your pace but also challenges you, and very warm in her approach which helps you open up more.
Tara was wonderful! She was an awesome listener. Very attentive and responsive. She created a safe space. My partner and I loved that she was straightforward and did not take sides, she held us both accountable. Her approach was warm and inviting. Tara gave homework that we think will be extremely beneficial to our journey in couples therapy. We cannot wait for our next session.
