“I’m a complex situation and Tom identified that and immediately saw my situation needed a specialized care. I have a lot of respect for anyone who says, “This is out of my scope of care.” He was kind and attentive and I felt no rejection whatsoever. I felt WITNESSED. Seen. Thank you, Tom. I look forward to any referrals you may present.”

Getting to know Thomas Adams

NOTE: I am a Therapist, not a Psychiatrist, and I do not dispense medication. Hi, I'm Tom and I specialize in providing online Therapy for exhausted people pleasers, perfectionists, and "givers" who are tired of neglecting their own needs. You'll learn to reclaim your energy, establish healthy relationship boundaries, and develop more self-compassion and more fulfilling relationships. If unsatisfying, unhealthy, or toxic relationships are a theme in your life, and you’re truly tired of living a life that is out of balance where your needs are left unfulfilled, it’s not too late to right the ship. Relationship patterns are not set in stone, and with some effort, you can change. This is not "quick-fix" therapy, but if you commit to this process, you will discover that you can move past the old, unhelpful relational patterns that have caused so much suffering in your life and develop new, healthier relationships that bring lasting joy and fulfillment. I hold a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I have extensive graduate and post-graduate training in modern psychoanalysis, attachment science, contemplative psychotherapy, and psychodynamic therapy, which has equipped me with the specialized skilled required to help you make these transformative changes in your life. NOTE: I do NOT work with couples.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You’re probably a pretty bright, curious person who likes to get at the roots of things. And perhaps you’ve tried therapy before, only to feel like you were just another appointment on someone’s calendar, your pain reduced to a checklist of symptoms and a diagnosis. Or maybe you just felt that you were only scratching at the surface, not digging at the core. I believe the most impactful work happens in a genuine human connection. It’s not about me giving you advice, applying band-aids, or handing you a roadmap. It’s about creating a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and respected for exactly who you are, and where purposeful and meaningful engagement leads to deep emotional shifts and lasting change. When you work with me, your story takes center stage. I’m here to listen deeply—to the words you say and the ones you can’t quite find. Sometimes I’ll ask questions so that I can better understand you and try to feel what you feel, but in the end, you are your own best authority. I don’t give “homework” and I don’t direct your sessions. But I do facilitate the process of you finding the answers and guidance which may be temporarily beyond your grasp, but exist within you already. Together, we’ll help shine a light on the parts of you that feel mysterious or hidden, but that desperately want to be seen. When you're ready to begin this process of self-understand and genuine self-care, I’m here to walk alongside you, helping to clear away the fog of self-doubt, old patterns and beliefs, and expectations of others so that you can hear your own voice more clearly.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Here's how you can begin the therapeutic process on your journey to healing: 1. Book an appointment. 2. You'll receive a text and email link to your private telehealth session the day before your appointment. 3. At the time of your appointment, make sure you have a private, safe place to talk and click the link to your appointment to get started. 4. In the first session, I'll listen deeply to your story so I can understand your situation and so that we can establish a framework, including therapeutic goals, for working together. 5. In subsequent sessions, we'll establish a Weekly routine for meeting and engaging in talk therapy, where your story takes center stage. 6. When you feel your therapeutic goals have been met, we'll schedule a final session to review our work together and celebrate the gains you've made on your journey.
