I believe that our struggles with mental health can often make us feel like we are outside looking in-different, broken, the Black Sheep. When we learn to change our view of these unique challenges or experiences, they can become strengths and lose their power over us. My focus is to help individuals increase their awareness of their own wealth of internal strength and their ability to make the changes they want in their lives. We will achieve this through a collaborative approach that brings together elements of CBT, ACT, Mindfulness, SFBT, and existential philosophy, building on the amazing capacity you already have to grow. I have experience working with clients facing multiple mental health concerns, ranging from depression, anxiety, substance use, and trauma to exploring identity and purpose as they navigate life changes. I earned my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Edward's University. I tend to tell bad and dad jokes, often laced with a little sarcastic, self-deprecating humor. I'm client-centered and will follow you on the path you want to walk. Hopefully, I'll be able to challenge you to look into the dark places when you're ready and spot the things you may be missing while you're busy living your life and wrestling with what bothers you. I retired from the Army in 2014. I wrestled with my own professional and personal identity and had to figure out who I was going to be now that I had to grow up. I needed to do something meaningful. Therapy has been a wonderful experience and offers a unique way to be a small part of someone moving from surviving to living. I approach goal setting collaboratively. I'll offer ideas based on what you share, but goals are personal desires. Sometimes we need to learn how to make goals realistic, measurable, and achievable, and I enjoy working together to design them.
