Getting to know Tim McNichol

Hello, I'm Tim. Do you ever feel that the tasks of modern life leave you with limited space and energy to focus on your emotional and mental well-being? When people are maxed out emotionally, they sometimes notice changes in their behaviors and relationships. Life's demands can lead to imbalances that might show up as discord with your significant other or family members, a general sensation of stress or fatigue, or a lack of motivation to engage in mood-regenerating practices. If these experiences resonate with you, I would welcome the opportunity to collaboratively explore the underlying causes and work toward rebuilding emotional equilibrium. Sometimes people view therapy and self-care as too much of a time commitment during their already busy schedules; however, I believe it is an essential part of any self-maintenance plan. A practice of working toward better self-understanding and self-compassion is always a return on the investment of time. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Portland State University, which informs my approach to supporting clients in navigating life's challenges with empathy and practical strategies.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use a collaborative approach to explore your concerns and develop goals. After goals have been collaboratively determined, it is important to experiment with ways those can be implemented in your day-to-day life. Together, we will explore options to discover what is going to work best for you in your journey to feeling better. We will continue to evaluate what is working, and what is not, and think creatively about how you can take the topics covered in our sessions into your daily life.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Tim is highly personable. He makes the experience of going to therapy not only smooth but also enjoyable.

Working with Tim has been wonderful. I appreciate that Tim understands the LGBT experience. I also appreciate how understanding Tim is. He allows me the time and space to get to solutions rather. He doesn't just offer up ideas or solutions, but encourages me to think my way to these solutions. All of these qualities are very important to me. This is my first experience with therapy and it's been nothing like I had imagined. It's been great! A positive and supportive addition to my life.
