Getting to know Travis Buchanan

Hello, I'm Travis Buchanan, a licensed marriage and family therapist and licensed advanced alcohol drug counselor based in Tustin, California, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I earned my Master’s in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton. I love what I do for work. When I'm not practicing therapy, I'm spending time with friends, catching a baseball game, reading, or listening to music. My approach My approach to therapy is client-focused. I conceptualize from an Adlerian theoretical orientation where I emphasize collaboration, insight, self-awareness, and encouragement. I see my clients as resourceful and the true experts of their own lives. In our work together, I provide support and insight so clients may lead better, happier lives. My focus I work with clients encountering aging parents, chronic health issues, and complex family relationships including grief and loss. I have a vast knowledge of addiction, substance misuse, and recovery. I also work with clients in high-stress work environments. My communication style I am very open, approachable, and empathic. I am a very good listener and make every effort to ensure each client feels heard and understood. I tailor therapeutic interventions so clients can hear things in a different way. The hope is this helps elicit better understanding and, where necessary, change. My journey to mental healthcare I was drawn to helping others because this work gives my life a sense of purpose and meaning. Each person is uniquely different, and psychotherapy provides the opportunity to learn and grow as there are constantly new things being revealed. I really enjoy getting to know and work with people on a much deeper level and seeing change happen. My goals for you I work with each client to understand their wants, needs, and goals and establish a plan for treatment from there.
