Getting to know Tricia Betters-Black

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience in a wide range of areas, including substance abuse, mental health, grief counseling, and extensive work within the LGBTQ+ community. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Springfield College. My therapy style is very interactive, compassionate, and warm. My therapeutic modalities vary depending on the client, as no one person is the same. Some of the approaches I use include Client-Centered Therapy, Motivational Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Psychotherapy. I believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect and will meet you where you are. I am an extremely good listener and find it important for you to receive feedback and be able to communicate openly with me. Finding the right therapist is not always easy and can be discouraging for some. I commend you for reaching out and truly hope I can be part of your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During the first session it is more of a getting to know you and plan what you would like to work on and where you feel you may want to start. Setting goals are important so that you can see your growth through out your time with me, so between the first and second session we will work on them amd them how to accomplish these goals. Which can come in many forms. Sometimes just talking things through is enough other times you may have some homework to complete to be able to reach these goals.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I truly look forward to my sessions. She has a great wit and makes me feel comfortable, as I generally am not that way talking about my feelings and emotions. She makes me laugh during each session and I feel like I am making strides in grasping the issues in my life.

Tricia Betters-Black was wonderful. This was my first appointment and I was a little nervous as I have never made an appointment with a therapist before. But she put me at ease right away and had great insight and offered several suggestions to implement on my journey. I look forward to my next appointment!
