Getting to know Tyra Hughes

Hello, my name is Tyra Hughes, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I live and work in the Bay Area of California. For over twenty years, I have worked as a social worker for children and families in the foster care system. In addition, since 2017, I have been a licensed therapist, and I have experience providing therapy to children, adults, and couples in English and Spanish. I also supervise others on their journey to becoming therapists. I have a BA in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley and a Masters in Social Work from San Jose State. In addition to my formal education, I take trainings to help me grow as a therapist on a regular basis. Personally, I am a single mother to two teenagers, and I love nature, travel, and sports. I look forward to working with you if you feel we would be a good match. Currently, I only provide individual therapy, not couples or family counseling.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The style of therapy I use is strength based and adapts to each person's unique needs. I am passionate about helping, and I honor and respect each person for who they are. For that reason, I take into account of several aspects of life, including, but not limited to cultural, gender, and economic identities. There's nothing I haven't heard, and I want to be sure that you feel seen and understood. My goal is to help and empower you. Usually, at the end of our session, I leave you with something to work on.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Tyra feels like someone I’ve known for years!
Tyra stands out with all of the listed characteristics however I could only chose two. Lol. She is humorous, intelligent, solution oriented, and open minded. She’s also direct , empowering and challenges me and still somehow does it in a comforting way. I always look forward to our sessions.
I love Tyra's style. I feel seen by her. I think she gives good advice and I take what she says to heart. I've had quite a few therapists and Tyra stands out for her warmth, clarify, and ability to connect emotionally.
