Valerie Martin, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there, I'm Valerie! I am licensed in Texas with 24 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, & depression. I have both personal and professional experience with chronic illness, so I am well-equipped to help individuals who are dealing with this. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage, and I am proud of you for getting started! My approach I am straightforward but gentle and compassionate. My approach is eclectic and will vary based on my client's personality and individual needs. I will do everything in my power to make this a comfortable and effective experience for you. My focus I believe the most effective therapist/client relationship happens when a client can identify what they have been struggling with and what their therapeutic goals are. I am happy to help in this process, and together we will work to achieve your goals. My communication style I encourage open communication in order to maximize a client's therapeutic experience. My goal is to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment. I practice active listening and will give you opportunities to reflect on your experiences with you as an empathetic partner. If we’re working through something challenging, you can expect me to be calm, patient, and understanding. I want to encourage my clients to be open and honest with me about what I can do better to ensure that they get the most from their experience. My journey to mental healthcare My journey as a professional counselor began with my own traumatic experiences and challenges. Early in my career, I worked with head-injured patients, as well as people with chronic/terminal illness. Over the years, I have worked with a variety of patient groups experiencing anxiety, depression, and trauma.
