Valerie Taber, MA

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi! My name is Valerie Taber (she/her/hers), and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor based in Southern California. I hold a Master’s in Counseling from the University of Redlands. I am LGBTQIA+ and gender-affirming, neurodivergence-affirming, and tend to do therapy from a framework of feminism, racial justice/equity, and body neutrality/fat-positive perspectives. My approach I tend to be eclectic in my approach but am primarily drawn to interpersonal and client-centered methods. For adults, I make many connections between current issues and childhood experiences, so attachment theories are also a major influence for me! Attachment theories play a huge role in my work with young children and their families as well. My focus My specialties include working with children and parenting issues, and I’ve spent most of my past six years as a therapist focusing on these areas. I have recently branched out and found a passion for working with women’s/AFAB issues and postpartum difficulties as well. My communication style I aim to create an environment of compassion and kindness. I strongly believe we can’t hate ourselves into a version we love, and that shaming and harsh criticism have no place in the therapy room. I welcome feedback and want to create a therapy experience that works for you and your needs. My journey to therapy I became interested in therapy work after working in the childcare field and seeing how big a difference early intervention makes in our lives. I also find that we can all use a little more self-compassion in our lives and want to be a part of making that happen. My goals for you I take a collaborative approach! I may have ideas about what goals to set, but they are strongly influenced by the issues you feel are important. My first session with you A first session is typically about seeing whether we are a good fit and getting background history on your life and the issues you’re most concerned about.
