Valerie is available for telehealth only and works with adults 18 and older. Although she is trained to work with children, she is not currently accepting new patients under the age of 18. After you book, Valerie will call to complete a free phone consultation to ensure your questions are answered and to collect additional information ahead of the session. Valerie works with individuals and couples of all backgrounds. She has experience helping individuals and couples navigate affairs and trauma. She has a gentle and reflective approach rooted in mindfulness-based practices. With couples, she uses the Gottman Method and has completed their level 3 training. With adolescents and teens who have experienced trauma, she uses Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), of which she is certified. Valerie holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Central Florida. Relationships can feel wonderful and fulfilling, and also stressful and overwhelming. The Gottman Method of Couples Therapy is based on Dr. John Gottman’s research that began in the 1970s and continues today. This research focuses on what makes relationships succeed or fail. From it, Drs. John and Julie Gottman created a therapy method that emphasizes a practical approach to improving couples’ relationships and teaches specific tools to deepen friendship and intimacy. To productively manage conflicts, couples are given methods to handle “resolvable problems” and learn to dialogue about “gridlocked” (perpetual) issues. Each couple works with Valerie to celebrate their relationship’s strengths and gently navigate its vulnerabilities together as a team. Gottman Couples Therapy is an evidence-based treatment effective for many types of couples: heterosexual, gay, lesbian, and more. Visit Gottman.com to learn more about this model.
