Vanessa Gonzalez, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Vanessa Gonzalez, LMFT. I strongly believe that each person has what it takes internally to achieve their goals and just requires some assistance to facilitate change. I believe all children can develop social-emotional skills to effectively communicate their needs. I am familiar with the use and skills of Trauma-Focused CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness skills, parenting skills, as well as other modalities. My approach I believe communication and misunderstandings in the expression of thoughts and feelings are where errors can begin to occur. Effective communication is one of the ultimate skills to learn, along with control of our own thoughts, relaxation skills to help calm ourselves to make better choices, and learning skills to assist with all the emotions we may experience. My focus My focus when working with others is children, adolescents, and parenting skills to provide the most growth for youth. I have a history of working closely with foster youth, children in kinship care, as well as children in traditional home settings. I have worked with children experiencing anxiety, trauma, ADHD, grief, separation, and divorce. My communication style I strive to provide each individual with a safe, nonjudgmental space. I also like to set up the environment as fun, educational, and understanding. The best part of working with children and youth is being able to meet them where they are and allow them to feel heard and understood. My journey to therapy Originally, as a young adult, I took the path of working with adults and children with special needs, as well as in the school setting working with children as a behavior interventionist. I continue my path by gearing my education toward becoming a teacher, specifically a special education teacher.
