What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect a collaborative and supportive approach. I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can be honest, ask questions, and talk about what is really going on without fear of judgment. I will meet you where you are and work with you to better understand your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. Together, we will identify what is getting in the way and develop practical strategies that fit your life, rather than trying to force you into a one size fits all approach. With teens and young adults, I focus on building trust, helping them feel heard, and giving them tools to better manage emotions, stress, relationships, and communication. When appropriate, I also involve parents and families to help improve communication and create healthier dynamics at home. I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent clients and their families. Therapy may include helping family members better understand each other, navigate communication differences, and find strategies that work for everyone. Therapy is not about having all the answers. It is about having a safe, supportive space to explore what is happening and having someone alongside you as you work toward meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is collaborative and flexible, and each session is tailored to the client’s age, needs, and goals. Sessions may include talk therapy, skill building, hands on activities, or games, especially when working with children and teens. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) strategies to help clients understand their thoughts and emotions, improve emotional regulation, manage stress, and develop healthier coping skills. A typical session may include checking in about how things have been going, identifying current challenges, talking through situations or relationships, and practicing skills that can be used outside of therapy. With teens and young adults, I may incorporate interactive activities to make therapy engaging and developmentally appropriate. When working with families, sessions may include parents or caregivers when helpful. We may focus on improving communication, understanding each other’s perspectives, and developing practical strategies that can be used at home. My goal is for clients to leave sessions with greater understanding of themselves and practical tools they can use in everyday life.
