My name is Velma Penermon Stevens. I am a licensed clinical social worker originally from Miami, Florida. I am a proud graduate of the magnificent Florida A&M University and Florida State University, where I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work. I have over 26 years of experience in this field, including 8 years in Pastoral Care. The majority of my work has been within the non-profit sector, where I witnessed firsthand the need for specialized counseling and therapy services. I understand how living situations, health status, and even zip codes can impact a person's mental health. I am committed to helping break barriers, break negative cycles, and break through the difficult times that challenge a person's sense of wellness. My entire professional career has been dedicated to empowering those who have felt disenfranchised and unheard, helping them find their voice. I offer a wide variety of compassionate and judgment-free therapeutic approaches to mental health counseling. My specialties include depression, substance use/abuse, anxiety, grief and loss, domestic violence, caregiver support, and marriage, family, and relationship issues. My treatment modalities are tailored to create an individual treatment plan just for you. These include crisis intervention, solution-focused therapy, storytelling, narrative therapy, strengths-based approaches, and family systems therapy. I believe that everyone is capable of change. I believe that balance in one's life is achievable and obtainable. This is possible when people have the right conditions under which they can thrive and become their true selves.
