Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there, I'm Vicki! Hello, my name is Vicki Smith. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. Relationship issues, life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress, grief/loss, and more can make daily life difficult. I can help you find ways to cope and function better. My personal goal is for you to be your healthiest self. My approach I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on how people think and act to address emotional and behavioral challenges. Therapy aims to recognize how thoughts affect feelings and actions. Once these connections are made, you learn to replace negative thoughts with healthy ones, resulting in healthier emotions and behaviors. Other therapy types can be used if better suited to the issue. My focus I specialize in counseling adolescents but have experience with all ages. Relationship issues, life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress, and grief/loss are common concerns I work on. I can help with many other conditions as well. My communication style I use a friendly approach but know when to push. You should be willing to work hard and be open to the process. My mantra is that if someone leaves a session in better shape than they arrived, it was a success. We won’t create a perfect life, nor will it happen overnight. Change is a process, and we need to trust it. My journey to mental healthcare I worked as an educator in Texas public schools for 30 years. As a middle school math teacher, I didn’t have much time to help students with personal issues but wanted to support them because these challenges impacted their academics. To pursue this passion, I earned my Master’s in Counseling from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and became a Licensed Professional Counselor.
