Virginia Barnett, LMFT

Virginia Barnett, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
My name is Virginia Barnet, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I hold a Master’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy from the University of Phoenix. My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that every individual is unique, and treatment should not try to fit someone into specific categories. Instead, I focus on truly understanding what my clients are experiencing, without judgment. My therapeutic style is eclectic because I believe no one fits into just one approach. I draw from strength-based models, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, and trauma-focused therapy to tailor treatment to each client’s needs. I typically work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, couple and marital issues, parenting challenges, trauma, life adjustments, relationship problems, and teenagers struggling with daily life. In sessions, I create a safe and calm environment while also encouraging clients to challenge themselves and make progress. I want my clients to feel comfortable bringing their own personality and communication style to therapy. My journey to becoming a therapist was influenced by several factors, including my own struggles as a teenager, growing up with a single mother who worked in the mental health field, and my passion for problem-solving and connecting with people through their experiences. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, and I encourage clients to be active participants in setting their goals. Together, we work to make these goals realistic and achievable. During our first session, I like to explore what brings you to therapy—such as recent situations, feelings, and triggers—and learn about your current life circumstances to better understand your experiences.
