Psychotherapist
NC
Hello, my name is Wanda Collazo. As we prepare to begin the therapeutic process and continue to develop a working relationship, I believe it is very helpful for you to learn some information regarding my professional background and counseling philosophy. I consider counseling an interactive process during which we collaborate, exchange ideas, and design a plan of action with the intent of identifying your concerns and building the skills necessary to express your thoughts and feelings, overcome challenges, and gain a new life perspective. I look forward to our work together as we embark on this empowering experience. I completed my graduate education, receiving a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA, on September 7, 2011. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA, on August 21, 2009. I currently hold licensure as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the State of North Carolina. I have been licensed since March 2, 2012, and have been involved in the mental health field since January 2011. I have over ten years of counseling experience. I have over 20 years of military service and extensive experience working with issues associated with military life, including family dynamics, deployments, frequent moves, and more. I have worked with a variety of clients, including parents and their children, couples, persons suffering from anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, adults and children dealing with bereavement and grief, and adults coping with physical illness, job loss, and life stage adjustments. I utilize many techniques associated with the cognitive-behavioral approach, which focuses on identifying the client's pattern of thoughts, recognizing potential areas for change or improvement, and modifying behavior. I have also been trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and have experience working with chronically depressed and self-injurious clients.
