I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over thirty years of experience as a medical social worker in home health and hospice. My passion is working with seniors and their families to help navigate the struggles associated with aging and caring for aging family members. My approach I have a very informal approach to counseling and provide much education to help clients through the difficulties related to aging, caregiving, memory loss, depression, anxiety, and grief. My style could be described as "conversational" with a foundation in cognitive behavior therapy. When working with memory impairment, I advocate for the use of validation as an alternative to reality orientation to decrease stress and frustration while decreasing problem behaviors. My focus With decades of experience in the field of gerontology, I have developed exceptional skills for working with aging adults and their families. I have served on the Board of Directors with the Alzheimer's Association, which included public speaking, in-home evaluations, and support groups. I provide counseling for issues related to depression and anxiety associated with aging, chronic illness, grief, and memory loss, as well as many other related issues. I have a wealth of experience providing practical solutions to safety hazards, caregiver burden, and long-term planning. My communication style I prefer to talk with clients in much the same manner as I talk with my family and friends. I believe an informal therapeutic setting is best and I shy away from the role as "the expert" and try to help people come up with their own solutions whenever I can. My journey to mental healthcare I have been a social worker my entire life. I made it official in 1993 when I got my Master of Social Work degree with a graduate certificate in gerontology, but even as a child, I recall having daydreams about helping those less fortunate than myself.
