Yolanda Carter, LMHC

Psychotherapist
FL
I am licensed as a Mental Health Counselor and certified as a Masters Addiction Professional, a Clinical Trauma Professional, a Life Coach, and in Mindfulness Therapy. I hold a Master's degree in Counselor Education from Florida A&M University. I have been in the field of mental health for 17 years and practice in the state of Florida. My therapeutic approach is one of empowerment, focusing on providing clients with the tools they need to become confident in their ability to master their life by applying coping skills that put them back in the driver's seat. Some common theoretical approaches that I apply are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). These therapeutic models appeal to me because they are action-driven, giving the client a sense of control, and I am very results-oriented. My ideal client is an adult between the ages of 21 and 120. This adult is high functioning and going through a major transition in life, dealing with anxiety, difficulty making decisions, and/or depression associated with these changes. These changes may include, but are not limited to, employment, relationships, health, or unresolved childhood experiences. I meet clients where they are and cater to their unique communication styles. My goal is to provide a safe space where you feel heard, comfortable, and respected. I am soft-spoken and always ask permission to assess your readiness for a new challenge. My approach is gentle yet direct, and I understand the importance of timing. I allow the client to take the lead but won't hesitate to challenge them once we have built a solid therapeutic alliance. I am driven to do this work by my desire to see everyone have their best life experience. I believe that with new perspectives, we gain the shift necessary to reach our next level of greatness, and a little support goes a long way.
