Psychotherapist

Struggling with eating patterns, body image, anxiety, or intense emotional swings that feel hard to control? Feeling stuck in cycles of shame, restriction, conflict, or overwhelm at home? I specialize in trauma informed, evidence based therapy for adolescents, young adults, and adults navigating eating disorders, disordered eating, anxiety, depression, attachment injuries, and co occurring mental health concerns. At Sova Counseling, my work centers on dignity, collaboration, and practical change. Therapy is not about forcing compliance. It is about understanding what is driving the pattern and building sustainable skills that actually work in real life. I help clients untangle the relationship between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and family dynamics, especially when food, control, or conflict have become coping strategies. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, attachment based approaches, trauma focused work, and motivational interviewing to create structured but human care that respects both complexity and agency. I also work closely with caregivers and families using Emotionally Focused Family Therapy. Through EFFT, I help parents respond effectively to emotional distress, strengthen attachment bonds, and support recovery without escalating shame or power struggles. Families learn how to become steady emotional supports while maintaining clarity and structure. If you are looking for care that takes the full picture seriously and moves beyond surface level symptom management, I aim to provide a space that is thoughtful, steady, and oriented toward meaningful change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect therapy with me to feel structured, collaborative, and grounded. I do not believe in shaming, forcing change, or pushing people faster than they are ready to move. Our early sessions focus on understanding the full picture of what is happening in your life, including emotional patterns, relationships, stressors, and the role symptoms may be playing. A central part of our work is clarifying your own values. Rather than imposing goals from the outside, we identify what truly matters to you and use those values as a compass for decision making and change. Therapy becomes less about avoiding discomfort and more about moving toward a life that feels aligned and meaningful. I tend to ask thoughtful questions and help you connect dots between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and family dynamics. At the same time, I believe in accountability. Change requires honesty and follow through. We hold accountability firmly but without shame, focusing on responsibility, learning, and growth rather than blame. For families and caregivers, sessions are active and skills based. In Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, I help caregivers respond to distress in ways that strengthen attachment and reduce escalation, while maintaining clear boundaries and structure. Therapy with me is not about quick fixes. It is about building insight, resilience, and sustainable progress that holds up in real life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, we focus on building a clear understanding of what brings you in and what you would like to see change. I take time to explore current concerns, relevant history, patterns around emotions and relationships, and the role symptoms may be playing in your life. Together, we identify goals that feel realistic and aligned with your values. Ongoing sessions balance insight and action. We examine how thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and family dynamics interact, and we practice skills that support regulation, flexibility, and more intentional decision making. I often provide structured exercises or reflections between sessions so progress continues outside the therapy room. For families using Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, sessions are active and skills oriented. Caregivers learn specific strategies to respond to distress, strengthen attachment bonds, and support recovery while maintaining clear boundaries and accountability.
