Getting to know Yufei Chen

My name is Yufei Chen. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Millbrae, California. I use a client-centered and relational approach to support adolescent and adult clients through life transitions, identity exploration, existential dread, relationship issues, and other stressful situations. I earned my Master's in Clinical Psychology from San Francisco State University and hold a Bachelor's degree from Cornell University. My formal training in counseling has been psychodynamically and relationally oriented. With each client, I focus on building a strong therapeutic bond and adjust my approach based on the client's specific needs. Some other theories and modalities that inform my work include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, and Family Systems. I have experience serving clients dealing with perfectionism, burnout, immigration stress, perinatal issues and parenting struggles, anxiety, and depression. I strive for therapy to be a space where clients feel safe and free to explore who they are in the world without having to meet anyone else's expectations. My role as your therapist is someone who listens with nonjudgmental curiosity and explores the various areas of your life with you. Additionally, I believe in showing up as my authentic self and actively using my lived experience as an immigrant, woman, mother, and someone who grew up in a highly competitive and achievement-driven culture to inform my work.
