Getting to know Dr. Zairys Feliz

I am a psychotherapist, relationship and sex expert with over a decade of experience helping individuals and couples improve their emotional well-being, relationships, communication, self-awareness, and overall quality of life. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College, City University of New York, and a PhD from the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes. Throughout my career, I have worked with clients experiencing a wide range of emotional, relational, and intimacy concerns. I believe therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, individualized, and grounded in a genuine therapeutic relationship. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I draw from different therapeutic perspectives and strategies to meet each client where they are and help them work toward their individual goals. My style is warm, empathetic, down-to-earth, and engaged. I strive to create a comfortable, judgment-free environment where clients can speak openly about their lives, relationships, emotions, intimacy, sexuality, and even the things they may have never felt comfortable discussing with anyone else. My goal is not simply to help clients understand what they are experiencing, but to help them recognize patterns, develop greater self-awareness, communicate more effectively, and make meaningful changes that contribute to healthier relationships and a more fulfilling life. PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICAID OR MEDICARE INSURANCE-BASED PLANS APPOINTMENT POLICY: Please complete all of your intake forms prior to your first session. You will receive an email from Bloom Practice with your intake paperwork.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Clients often describe me as warm, down-to-earth, insightful, understanding, and easy to talk to. I recognize that beginning therapy—and especially discussing relationships, intimacy, sexuality, or deeply personal experiences—can feel vulnerable. I work hard to create a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself without fear of judgment. I am an active and collaborative therapist. I will listen and provide support, but I will also ask thoughtful questions, help you recognize patterns, offer different perspectives, and respectfully challenge you when I believe it can help you grow. You can expect our conversations to be genuine, purposeful, and focused on the concerns that matter most to you. I also don't expect every client to respond to therapy in the same way. What works well for one person may not work for another. I will take the time to understand you as an individual and adapt our work to your personality, experiences, needs, and goals. Above all, you do not have to come to therapy already knowing exactly what is wrong or how to fix it. We can figure that out together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I begin by getting to know you and developing a clear understanding of what brought you to therapy. We will explore your current concerns, relevant experiences, relationships, emotional patterns, and what you would ultimately like to change or understand better. From there, we work together to identify meaningful and realistic goals for therapy. Because I use an eclectic approach, I do not follow the same formula with every client. Instead, I draw from different therapeutic strategies based on what you need and how you respond to the process. Our sessions may involve exploring the origins of certain emotional or relationship patterns, identifying thoughts and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck, improving communication, developing healthier boundaries, strengthening emotional awareness and expression, addressing intimacy or sexual concerns, and learning practical strategies that can be applied outside of therapy. I also believe insight and action should work together. Understanding why a pattern exists is valuable, but therapy should also help you determine what you can do differently moving forward. As we progress, we will continue evaluating what is helping, what may need to change, and whether our work is moving you toward your goals. Ultimately, I want you to leave therapy with a deeper understanding of yourself, stronger tools for navigating life's challenges, healthier ways of relating to others, and greater confidence in your ability to create and maintain meaningful change.

Zairys was very friendly and a good listener. We saw her for couples therapy but each met with her individually first. She was helpful in our individual sessions. When we met with her together, she was late and she cut one session short because her toddler woke up from his nap. What did us in was when she very clearly took sides in one of our sessions and overtly cast negative judgement upon one of us. She also disclosed things in our couples sessions that we had said to her privately in our individual sessions. She was perfectly friendly and had helpful feedback, but I would say overall unprofessional.
She is amazing !
