Hi there, I'm Zakiya! My goal is to offer you authenticity, understanding, and unconditional acceptance as we navigate your journey toward growth and self-discovery. I see myself as a guide, supporting you in overcoming challenges and becoming the best version of yourself. My approach Using a person-centered approach, I prioritize your unique needs and ensure that the "best version" of yourself is defined by you. I also draw from trauma-focused and cognitive behavioral techniques, tailoring each session to meet your specific needs. I also use a person-centered approach to provide clinical supervision. My focus Whether you're dealing with a life transition or a chronic issue like depression or post-traumatic stress disorder, I will meet you where you are, with optimism and compassion. I will work to help you identify the barriers that have been holding you back and to learn the skills to more effectively care for yourself and accomplish your personal goals. My communication style I will come to every session with my full and authentic self. I'll be honest and straightforward with you. I believe that good advice can come from anywhere, so I will consider you to be an expert and give you the respect you deserve. I also bring my love of movies and TV and use those as a way to help us both to understand therapeutic concepts and insights. My journey to mental healthcare I decided to become a counselor after I realized that I have a passion for helping people. I noticed thats this is something I do when no one is watching, and it brings me immense joy to see other people thrive and know that I had a hand in it. I learned this quote in college, and it sticks with me and really defines how I feel about counseling: "To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson.
