Psychotherapist
NC
My philosophy of therapy is that people sometimes get to a point in life where they can no longer tolerate old ways of dealing with problems (i.e., substance abuse, avoidance, blaming, hiding, etc). No matter how big or how small those problems are, you may need to establish new ways of coping with guidance from an outside perspective. My approach I strongly believe that people can begin to recover from many mental health issues by setting their sights on the life they want, rather than continuing to run from the life they don't want. If you feel like you've been living in darkness and want to feel the light on your face (or in your heart) again, I suggest you consider therapy. I know your time and commitment are important, and I find that if I nod and say very little, clients can often feel frustrated without feedback. My approach is engaging and conversational. I use a variety of clinical approaches in my practice. Most commonly, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to aid you in identifying core thoughts and beliefs that are causing emotional strife or leading to self-defeating behavior. I also apply tenets from other methods to teach other skills. These other methods include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Holistic/Mindfulness practices, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and others. My focus I have been a social worker since 1988, and in private practice since 2021. I welcome adults from all backgrounds to my practice. Specialty areas include addiction recovery, grief, life transitions, medical/end of life issues, women's aging issues, relationship challenges & LGBTQ+ issues. I also treat underlying depression, anxiety, and other mood issues. My communication style I aim to communicate in an open and direct manner, with special care not to be blunt or abrupt. I may challenge your pre-held beliefs or encourage you to challenge them, but I will always respect your perspective and validate where they came from.
